Last week we had a fabulous adventure... you might say we went on a quest to see the film version of Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief. Please reflect on the film and compare it to Rick Riordan's novel.
- What were three of your favorite parts of the novel.
- How were your favorite parts of the book portrayed in the movie?
- Describe what you liked about Hollywood's version of the story, or describe why you feel Rick Riordan's book is superior.
Some of you were not able to see the film on Friday.
- Describe three of your favorite events in Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief giving examples from the text of why these parts stand out to you.
6th grade, reading this book with you was probably my favorite part of the year! You are all amazing young humans and I am proud to call you my students!

ReplyDeleteThe book Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief is about Percy, a kid from New York City who doesn’t know he is a half-blood going on a quest to retrieve Zeus’ lightening bolt and save his mother from The Underworld. Every child from the ages 10-13 should read Percy Jackson because it’s an interesting book that teaches you a lot about the Greek gods. My three favorite parts of the book is are when he fights Ares, when he heals himself by water, and when he finds out his dad is the Sea God, Poseidon.
The fight that Percy Jackson had with Ares was amazing. Percy and Ares fought because Ares lied to Percy and it almost caused a huge war. Ares knew Percy did not steal Zeus lightening bolt, but he almost had all the Olympians against Percy and his dad Poseidon. Once Percy got out from the underworld he went into the ocean. Then after the ocean it was the. That’s when Ares came and had said, “You were supposed to die!” Then Ares started talking a lot of crap that Percy got mad and he fought with Ares. Percy said “WAVES,” and they came dashing in, Ares was in the water and Percy won.
Percy did get a lot of scratches and bruises from training and fighting at Camp Half-blood. Camp Half-Blood is the summer camps where the children of the god’s go when they find out they have a Greek god as a parent. The first time Percy got scratched by Clarisse during capture the flag he went to the water and healed him. Once Percy heals himself from water he becomes 5x stronger. He healed himself; he fought back, and won. After hellhound appeared, Percy Jackson was terrified. Out of know where Mr. Brunner came in and killed it. The hellhound was summoned from the inside of camp half-blood. After Annabeth replied, “go back into the water”.
Percy Jackson’s near death experience with the hellhound led to my favorite part of the book/ Once he had went back into the water to heal from when the Hellhound tried to kill him a sign had appeared over his head. It was the sign of Poseidon, a glowing green trident. Once Annabeth, Luke, Grover, Clarisse, and Mr. Brunner saw the sign they knew immediately he was the son of Poseidon. Percy felt so excited to finally know who his dad was. After that day he had to switch cabins. Percy went from cabin 11, the cabin for unknown demigods and the cabin of Hermes, to cabin 3 where he was alone as the only child of Poseidon. There were two reasons why it was good and bad to be Poseidon’s son at Camp Half-blood. It was good because Percy had cabin 3 to himself, but it was bad because he was lonely.
Percy fighting Ares, learning about his waterpower’s, and his father Poseidon are my favorite parts of the book Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief. Percy fights Ares about the bolt, heals him by water, and finds out his dad is Poseidon. Percy had gone through a lot in his life, such as his dad not being there. I can relate to that because my dad isn’t really
My essay
ReplyDeleteThe book, Percy Jackson and the Lightening Theft by Rick Riordan was good, but the movie was better! The book had more details, the movie had more action. The movie was different from the book because when they went to the lotus casino they didn’t eat followers. In the movie Percy was fighting Annabeth instead of Clarisse. In the movie the characters were older than the were in the book.
The book was awesome! Percy was older than he was supposed to be. Grover was older to he was able to drive and do things adults do. Annabeth was a teenager, and she was much stronger than she was in the book. And instead of Percy fighting Clarisse he fought Annabeth.
The action in the house was great. The movie had more action than I expected in the movie. I found it festinating when they were sword fighting. My favorite part was when they went to the lotus casino! They had many advertisements when they were in the casino.
The book had more details. It had a part in it that makes you want to read and never stop reading. The movie made me want to re-watch it! The difference from the movie and the book was the book had more vocabulary. The movie didn’t. Also the book was long. And if you watch the movie its an hour and a half.
This book was one of my favorites. I enjoyed the book but the movie was better! Many people enjoyed the book. Also many people liked the movie better. My opinion was that I liked the movie better.
Percy Jackson movie was confusing when Percy fought Luke, Annabeth was slicing Percy like ham, and the book had more details than the movie. Some of the things in the movie had nothing to do with the book. There was too little of information in the movie I really didn’t want to see it. When Persephone (Hades’ wife) shocked Hades with Zeus lightning bolt to help Percy get away, and when Grover got to get a lot of girls on his arm! The movie is very incorrect.
ReplyDeleteThe sequence was different. Luke wanted the lightning bolt so the children of the gods can be powerful. Then Luke tried to destroy Percy, Annabeth, and Percy’s mother! In the book wrong sequence is lying to everyone at camp half-blood. The movie got me crazy!
Annabeth wasn’t the person anyone expected! It’s confusing because in the book Clarisse was the one that was fighting Percy not Annabeth. It wasn’t the same as the book the whole class read. I hated how I couldn’t see Clarisse try to drown Percy in the toilet. Percy tried to drown her instead with the control for water in the book. In the movie that scene didn’t happen, no one seen Clarisse!
Rick riordan made the movie terrible. But a question always pop up in my mind! “ How come the movie Harry Potter is similar to the book J.K Rowland wrote”? The book made more sense than the movie, Ares the god of war was important to the plot of the book but he wasn’t in the movie. Instead Luke was the bad guy. In the book he was conniving and sneaking because he led Percy, Annabeth, Grover to the “ Tunnel Of Love”. So I’m kind of mad at the directors for not making the movie the same as the book.
Percy Jackson the movie was mixing the time of Luke’s betrayal, Annabeth was the wrong person, and the book made the movie suck, because the movie was kind of crazy! Mixing up the books sequences is the wrong thing to do! Annabeth was slicing Percy like he wasn’t human! Rick riordan might have made the book to make the movie out of our interest. Mr. Riordan must have done that because directors like to change things. The book is very better than that out of order movie.
The movie “The lightning thief” was better than the book “The lightning thief” because, the characters were more lifelike, there was a lot more action, and the story seemed more vivid in the movie. The book was ok, but in the movie Percy seemed more like an actual human. Percy’s companions, Grover and Annabeth seemed like seemed like regular teens. In the book they appeared as ignorant, stuck up, and mean.
ReplyDeleteMy three favorite parts of the movie were when they met Medusa, when they went to the Lotus casino, and when Hades’s wife started flirting with Grover. When they meet Medusa and Percy snuck up o Medusa and chopped off her head and he gave it to Grover. When they went to the casino, Grover said that he was getting married and all of the girls said they were going to marry him. The third part I liked was when Prosiphine started to come on to Grover.
My favorite parts were different from the book because of the movie. In the book Percy used a mirror to reflect Medusa’s face, but in the movie he used his ipod touch. In the book Percy and his friends got out the casino with no problem, but in the movie Grover had to steal a car in order to leave. In the book Hades’s wife, Prosiphine wasn’t there but in the movie she helped Percy, Annabeth, and his mom get out of the underworld.
I liked the fact that Hollywood’s version had more action than there was in Rick R’s version. The movie had a lot more emotion and the characters were more modern than in the book. In the movie Grover was able to drive and Percy seemed more mature than in Rick R’s version. The movie had a lot of powerful sound that you really could feel the power of the scene.
The movie was better than the book, because were more modern, the sound gave great impact, and the scenes held great action.
The Percy Jackson movie was totally diffrent from the book especially with a scattered sequence, the characters or places did or had something new invovled and some characters were there or new ones were added. The sequence was very confusing the way it was. The characters were described in way in the book that wasn't descibed in the movie. The new characters were surprising. Viewers got psyhced when they saw those new characters.
ReplyDeleteThe different sequence attracted attention to the movie of Percy Jackson. Some parts were like the book, but those parts had something else in it. For example there was Percy's battle with Luke which never was like the book, Luke was chicken in the book but not in the movie. In the book Percy got the pearls to transport him out of the underworld from his dad underwater, but in the movie he got them at Aunty Em's restaraunt really Medusa, the Lotus Casino plus got sidetracked from eating lotus flowers that made you stop whatever you're doing, and the museum on top of Athena's statue head. The movie had a action themed sequence that made the viewers feel as if they were in the movie.
Well somecharacters were very different in the movie than in the Percy Jackson book, and so were the places. In the movie Percy,Annabeth and Grover each knew how to drive. The Lotus Casino a place that was a stop on their quest in the novel in both the movie and book had this lotus flower that would hypnotize you plus make you forget what you are supposed to do or want to do in order to survive. Even the underworld was in a new spot than in the book, the entrance to the underworld was at the Hollywood sign rather than in the DOA recording studio. The setting and characters ajusted the movie to make it intresting and action packed.
New characters were added to the Percy Jackson movie that were not in the novel. The new characters were Persephone and the women in the Lotus Casino. Some characters from the novel weren't there in the film like Clarisse and Mr.D. These characters were in the book. The new ones were to make the movie interesting.
The Percy Jackson book by Rick Riordan was totally different from the movie because of the scattered sequence of events, the characters did different things from the book, and some characters weren't featured while new were added. The scattered sequence made the movie really impressive and exciting. The characters were diffrently described in the movie. The new characters added a sophisticated taste to the movie and the ones that weren't there made me think hard about predicting the outcome of the movie. The Percy Jackson was the best movie I ever saw.
I think Rick Riordan’s novel is superior to the film Percy Jackson because it has three amazing parts in great detail. Perseus and Annabeth entered the Tunnel of Love and ended up caught in a trap that was meant for Ares and his girl friend Aphrodite, Grover, Percy, and Annabeth went on a search of the Underworld for Hades, and finally Percy was told to stay behind and protect the flag in a game of capture the flag instead of going to retrieve the flag which he fought his enemy Clarisse and his true identity was revealed. Rick Riordan’s novel was better that the movie of Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief.
ReplyDeleteAres’ girlfriend was already married but Ares still took Aphrodite out to the tunnel of love but they left because they knew it was a trap but Ares left behind his battle shield so he asked if Perseus, Grover, and Annabeth to retrieve it for him. Then Annabeth and Percy got caught in the trap. Perseus and Annabeth entered the tunnel of love because Ares, the god of war, tricked them into retrieving his battle shield. The Water park scene was amazing because it helped me know that Percy and Annabeth were just trying to hide the fact that they were starting to have feelings for each other. It was clear that at some point Annabeth and Percy would end up together.
It was awesome when Percy played the game capture the flag and was told to watch and protect the flag in the novel. The challenge of playing capture the flag was when Percy discovered he was the son of Poseidon. (That was also the day the daughter of Athena was defeated by someone.) She was surprised that Percy had defeated her in a battle so she thought that was her match but she wasn’t sure.
The part when Percy, Annabeth, and Grover took on a little scavenger hunt for Hades I thought was very exciting. On there way to the under world to get there they had to pay golden drachmas just to catch a ride to the under world because it seems people could stay in the waiting room forever without some golden drachmas. When Percy found Hades Percy found out 2 things. #1: his mother wasn’t died and Hades didn’t have the master bolt. That’s why I found this part really good.
Rick Riordan’s novel had three of my favorite parts and they were well described. When Percy, Grover, and Annabeth went to the under world in search for the master bolt, they played capture the flag, and when Percy and Annabeth went threw the tunnel of love were the three favorite parts of mine. So I would have to say Rick Riordan’s novel was better than Percy and The Lightning Thief the movie.

ReplyDeletePercy Jackson the lighting thief by Rick Riordan is the best book because, Percy made toilet water hit a girl in the face, Percy gets to see his dad for the fist time. And Percy’s proctor Grover gets his license for keeping Percy alive. Find out more about why I like the Percy Jackson the lighting thief
First in the book Percy hits a girl in the face with toilet water. The girl is named Clarisse. She is the daughter of Ares. Clarisse is very mean just like her father, the god of war. This is favorite part because, it was hilarious. My favorite part from the novel was not in the movie. This part was just in the book. I think this part really help Percy realized who he really is and help the other campers like him.
In the book Percy saw his dad when he returned the bolt to Zeus. Percy Jackson had not seemed his dad since he was a baby. But his father had not been with Percy because, of the rule. The rule was the gods could not see their children or they would turn to a human. This part was in the movie. It was really loving and weird moment. But I think this part showed Percy that his dad really cared about him and he always will. I like the movie for this selection of the book because, in the book it sounded like Percy was happy was happy to see his dad. However in the movie Percy seemed like he never wanted to he see his dad, he jested want to clear his name.
Grover is Percy protector. Grover is human and goat, he’s a satyr. In the book Grover gets his license. It’s not to driver. It’s a to look for pan the nature god, so it’s a searching licenses. I mostly like the book for this selection of to book because; the book gave more action for this part. In the book Grover gets his horns. But my opinion is Hollywood could have done a better job of making this part more interesting and have more action.
In conclusion, I think Percy Jackson is the best book because, he makes water splash Clarisse from the toilet, he sees his dad, and Grover gets his license. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes fiction books and action.

ReplyDeleteMy first favorite part of the Percy Jackson novel was when Percy had to battle Ares for Hades helmet. My second favorite part was when Percy went to Mount Olympus and then he meets his father Poseidon. My last favorite part was when camp half blood was playing CTF (Capture The Flag) and then, Percy discovered that he was the son of Poseidon, god of the sea. My last favorite part made the story more exciting for me because, I know it would make the book more adventurous and more magnificent. The novel was the most stupendous book I ever read before.
ReplyDeleteMy first, second, and last favorite part wasn’t in the movie because, the filming will maybe take a few more days or weeks. The film was nothing like the novel because; in the film there was no scene of Clarisse and Ares. The movie didn’t show any parts of the book like the battle between Ares and Percy. I have to admit that the film was better than the movie because, it was a magnificent movie but the novel was also stupendous. The only part that the novel didn’t have was the part that Luke gave Percy the shield. That’s mostly all the differences between the book and the movie.
The Lightning Thief movie was very adventurous and wonderful because, the graphics were amazing, the setting was exciting, and the way it was directed was fabulous.

Today we are going to be talking about the Percy Jackson movie. What is my 3 favorite parts are in the movie. We also are going to be talking about what I think of the movie. The we are going to be talking about is how the movie is different from the book. That is what we are going to be talking about.
My three favorite part of the movie is when Percy was going on the advangter. My second favorite part in the movie was when got to see his father. My last favorite in the movie is when Percy first came to camp half blood. Those are my three favorite parts in the movie.
The movie is way different from the book because in the book we had to find out who was Percy’s dad was. And in the movie they told us who his dad is. That is one way the movie is different than the book. Another way the movie is different from the book because it told us in the book where his mother was and who his was taken by. The last way the movie is different from the book because in the movie they took auntie EM’s head with them. That is all the ways the movie is different from the book.
I think this book was a good book because it was a touching book. Another thing I think about in this book is it could really happen in real life. It affected Percy a lot because he had dyslexia and he was a half god. That is what I think about in the book.
Today we talked about the Percy Jackson movie. We also talked about how the movie was different from the book. We also talked about my three favorite parts in the book and movie. And how it affected us and his people. That is what we talked about
☺Percy Jackson and The Lighten Thief is amazing, both the movie and book. The movie is really great but it’s not like the book, so I wasn’t happy about the movie. The book has more details and information. Together they’re just not the same. So I like them both but not together. Percy is from New York and he is a Demigod. Percy is a nice kid. I really love the book and movie. Go Percy!
ReplyDeleteDemigods are awesome people! Percy is a demigod (a demigod is a person that has a god for a father or mother). That is my favorite part of the book. Which in Percy Jackson & The Lightening Thief, my favorite chapter was chapter 8. It’s an amazing chapter, so that chapter is amazing because he is a Demigod. But he doesn’t know until he gets to Camp Half-Blood. Camp Half-Blood Rocks!
I really liked the movie but some parts were just bad. So it made me pretty mad because the book was so good. In the book Clarisse fights Percy but in the movie Annabeth fights Percy, when their playing “Capture the Flag”. So that really made me mad. When Percy met Hades, he was in the Under World and he didn’t get mother until he went home but in the movie he met Hades before he went into the Under World and took his mother. The movie was amazing but I didn’t like it.
In the Hollywood version of Percy Jackson and The Lighten Thief, Percy and Annabeth have a friendship. The movie is cool! Rick Riordan’s version is just out of this world. His version is better then the movie by Anonymous. They both rock but one version is better then the other version.

ReplyDeletePercy Jackson and the Lighting Thief was a grate movie and book because there was action in the movie, you could see all the characters from the book, and also in the movie it explains well what happends to Percy and his friends and also with the quest. My favorite part of the book was when Percy and Annnabeth met each other. I liked the movie because I could see the characters and what they looked like and also in the movie I could see what really going on in the setting and the action that they played. However I also liked the book because the book gives us more detail and all the things that happened in the book were interesting than the movie, I didn’t like the movie that much because most of the things that happened in the book didn’t really happened in the story. I liked the movie because I think it was much better than the book because in the movie you could see the characters and what they look like, In the movie you could see the actions instead of reading and you could do more than what it came half, Percy. I liked the book because my favorites parts showed and also liked the book because in the book when you read it what it happened in the book it makes you want to read more and also the things they say in the book is much better than the movie and some things that happened in the book ddint didn’t really wasn’t in the movie. The book and the movie were very different because all of the scattered sequence didn’t were different
I love the action that happened in the movie it was very unique and it looked like things that I never seen before. One of my favorite part of the movie was when Percy and Annabeth were sword fighting in the movie because when Percy got all cut there was a voice that told him to go touch the water and when Percy touched the water all of his cuts were gone. So that means that his father wanted to protect him. I also liked that part when Gabe left the house because it was a great for Percy’s mother because she wouldn’t have to keep dealing with him. But that that the same time Gabe was the one that was protecting Percy because of his smell. I also liked the part because it was both in the movie and the movie.
I also liked when Percy was playing capture the flag and was told to watch the protect in the movie. The whole idea about capture the flag was that when Percy was playing that when he discover that he was the son of Poseidon and also that same day daughter of Athena was defeated by Percy. Annabeth was very surprised that Percy had defeated the battle so she thought that was her match but she wasn’t sure.
The novel Percy Jackson and the lightning thief was very interesting because there was three parts in the novel that were great. There was also three parts in the movie that were interesting but in reality Rick Riordan’s book was superior. One amazing part in the novel that I liked was when we first saw Percy by a mistake use his powers. One of the scenes I liked from the movie the most was when they trying to get the pearl off the statue of Athena’s crown. If I were able to meet Rick Riordan I would ask him to keep writing continuous books about Percy and his adventures. This book would be more apeeling to more people if Anabeth and Percy got married.
ReplyDeleteI think The novel had more excitement than the movie. The book provided tons of opportunities for us to use our imagenation. I liked imagining how Percy fought Ares. I imagined the sea spirit to be as beautiful as a mermaid. I thought It was scary, embarrassing, and tons of action when Percy and Anna Beth where on the couples ride
There where a great amount of great parts in the movie. One of the great parts I enjoyed was when the left the latest casino. They made such an exit. They took a nice car and then crashed into a glass door. I thought the way to hardies door was cool and looking at all the forgotten hops and dreams. It was extremely cool when perky was fighting Luc and all the water came up from everywhere. Then the safe came from nowhere and hit Luc in the neck.
The book and the movie were so interesting and they both had a lot of action. I loved all the details that the book contained. During both the movie and book there was a lot of suspense it made me want to jump out of my seat. The movie and book both had a lot of sadness but had much much more action. The movie and book had so many characteristics it kept me on my toes I would never know when it was going to be sad, anger, or a fight.
They’re where so many parts I liked in both the movie and novel. I think if other kinds read or watch the book or movie they would find some things they liked. I think every 6th grader should read this book it’s a fun and existing novel. If I where to metric Riordan I would tell him his books are great and should let every middle school teacher have a copy of each of his books. The only thing I disliked about the movie was some of my favorite parts from the book weren’t there.
Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lighting Thief is an amazing book because Percy fought Ares, visited “Aunty Em’s” store, and went to the underworld with his two best friends. Those three parts of the novel are the best parts because they were very intense. Rick Riordan’s book The Lightning Thief is extremely better than Hollywood’s version of his book. The movie excluded the characters Clarisse (the bully at Camp Half-Blood), and Ares (the god of war). So the fight between him and Percy didn’t occur, and when Percy, Annabeth, and Grover were in the underworld he left behind Grover, but in the book he left behind his mom (Sally Jackson). The movie is missing many key parts but in very few ways it is the same as the novel.
ReplyDeleteWhen Percy was on the beach with Annabeth and Grover, Ares started talking to them and he admitted to stealing Hades’ helm. Ares said that the family wars were the best because they were the “bloodiest”. Percy and Ares started fighting but it was difficult for Percy because Ares had a longer sword. The mortals started watching the fight, but because of the mist they couldn’t see what was really going on so they made up and explanation that made sense to them. Percy won the fight because he stabbed Ares in the heel.
Another major part in the book was when Percy, Annabeth, and Grover went to Aunty Em’s store. Aunty Em looks sweet and innocent at first but she is really… Medusa! This part also happens in the movie but WHY they go to Aunty Em’s store is different. In the book they go there because they smell food but in the movie they go there because it is one of the places the hidden pearl is. Percy gets rid of Medusa by decapitating her.
The best part of the book was when Percy, Annabeth, and Grover went to the underworld. In the book while they were in the underworld, something from the depths of Tartarus was trying to pull them in. In the book, Persephone was never talked about but yet she was shown in the movie. When Percy was in the underworld his book bag (given to him by Ares) held Zeus’ master bolt, but he didn’t know. In the movie Zeus’ master bolt was hidden in the shield Luke gave Percy.
The Lightning Thief is an insanely amazing book because Percy Jackson fought a god named Ares, Percy slayed Medusa, and Percy went to the underworld with Annabeth and Grover and came back alive. The movie basically rushes the plot of the novel. In the movie Luke gave Percy a map that had all three spots where the pearls were. But in the book while they were wondering around a naiad gave Percy the pearls and told him that they were the only way to come back from the underworld. The reason they go to these places in the movie is because of Luke, these reason they go to these places in the movie is because they wonder there. The novel was better than Hollywood’s version of Rick Riordan’s book.

ReplyDeleteThe three parts are Percy and Luke fighting at camp. And when Aries was fighting Percy. The last one was when Percy was fighting Ms Dodd and her sister
One part I liked was when Percy was fighting Luke at the camp. because in book
Percy was sitting at the lake with Luke when Luke told him that he is the one who had the lighting bolt. Because Zeus and his brother’s father told Luke to steal the lighting bolt so there could have a war. But in the movie Percy fights Luke on the empire state built. I liked the book scene better than the movie.
The second part I liked was when Aries and Percy were fighting on beach. because in the book when Percy came back from underworld and Percy was on the beach. Than Aries came to fight Percy on the beach. so they was fighting Aries wining than Percy was wining. But Percy got the last shot than Aries got mad and said you had started a war. Final he took off on his motorcycle.
Third part I liked was when Percy and Ms.Dodd and her three sisters were fighting Percy on the bus. because the three sisters were looking for the lighting bolt but they did not have it. In the movie it does not happen in the movie at all. It should of happen in the movie. The movie could have been a good movie.
That is all my three parts I like about the book. Percy fighting Luke at camp, Aries and Percy fighting. My last part is Percy fighting MS. Dodd. And her three sisters on the bus.
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The lightning Thief is better then the movie because it describe more of the best parts like capture the flag, the Minotaur fight, and Percy about to get a swirly by Clarisse. The movie missed some parts, for example Persephone was never in the book. Poseidon wasn’t wearing blue armory. Kronos is the one who Luc was trying to send the bolt to, not Hades. I didn’t think the movie was showing the whole problem of the book.
ReplyDeleteCapture the flag was fun to read because it felt as if the reader was in the fight, the campers used real weapons/armory, and it sounded fun. Rick Riordan described the fight so much it felt as if the reader was in the fight along side Percy and his team. It is cool to use real weapons; it’s even cooler that you parent is one of the famous GREEK GODS. The reader would love to fight against Ares cabin because it would be a challenge for me. Imagine fighting the toughest cabin out of the whole 12 cabins. That is a HUGE challenge.
The Minotaur fight was interesting because it was intense, scary, and doubtful.
It was intense because sally Jackson, Grover, and Percy were running for their life from a half human, half bull that was trying to kill them. Scary because it is terrifying to know that a 6 ft thing is running after you, but you couldn’t figure out why. It probably made the reader feel doubtful because it made them have second thoughts whether our not Percy or Grover would have lived. It was also scary because watching your mother turn into gold shimmering dust right before your eyes would make you commit suicide. Your mother is the one who sticks with even to the end, that is torture for a 12 year old kid.
Percy about to get a swirly would be reader favorite part because it’s funny, makes you understand, and it is cool. This chapter of the book is cool because Percy gets a feeling in the pit of his stomach and water from everywhere in that bathroom explodes. It’s funny because Percy is about to get his head sticked inside of a toilet filled with sewage, which is really disgusting. It makes you understand because Percy is undetermined and there is only one god who could control water and that is Poseidon.
The book Percy Jackson ant the Olympians the lightning thief is better than the film because it describes more of capture the flag, the Minotaur fight, and Percy about to get a swirly. The book describes how Percy got a sign from his father after capture the flag. It was intense because his mother “died” after during the Minotaur fight. The scene was becoming clearer AnnaBeth begun to figure out whom Percy’s parent was. Also Percy began to understand that everything about Greek mythology was really because he was living it.
The best parts of Percy Jackson and the lighting thief were awesome sad, and violent. The awesome parts are would be full of awesomeness in the book. The sad part would be full of sadness. And these violent parts would be full of danger.
ReplyDeleteThe things that were awesome in the book were amazing, and cool. The first part was that Grover was flying was flying in Luke’s shoes. The second part was that Percy found out that he’s the son of Poseidon. The last but thing not least thing that was Percy jump out of the arch and landed on water but he wasn’t hurt.
The things that were sad in the book made me cry. Percy’s mom vanished when the Minotaur crushed her. The second saddest thing that Percy got kicked out o f so many boarding schools. Zeus daughter Thalia turns into a tree to protect the campers at camp half-blood. But she left behind her friends Grover, Annabeth, and Luke to live on without her.
The last exciting parts of the novel were the action. The thing that was scary was talking to Hades in the underworld. The next scary thing was Percy kick Luke’s butt at a battle. Also, Percy was fighting Ares the god of war.
Percy’s adventures with his friends were awesome. All of this was from the book. This book is now a movie. Some readers will see the movie; some will only enjoy the book comparing the movie and the book, and the book would win.
Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief
ReplyDeletePercy Jackson and the lightning thief. I think this book was really good, especially when Percy’s on adventure, being sarcastic and joking around, and lastly with all the details that Rick Riordan includes in this book. I am going to answer some question and talk about this book. And by the way this book was awesome Know lets get started!
Three favorite parts in the novel:
Three favorite parts in the novel Percy Jackson is when he goes to Montauk beach and he sees Grover come running then he had that funny look on his face and said the funniest thing though I don’t remember. My other favorite part in this novel is when Percy and Aries was on the beach and Percy was first getting beat up but then Percy made a surprise and wiped Aries butt, it was so funny. Then my last favorite part in this novel was when AnnaBeth and Percy went to this amusement park well water park and then spiders started coming out of these pipes and crawled on AnnaBeth and she was petrified it was hilarious. Those were my favorite parts in this novel Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief.
How was my favorite parts portrayed in the movie:
The first one of my favorite and how it was portrayed in the movie, in the movie when Percy sees Grover on Montauk beach he made a funny face and said something funny. However I did not get to see this part because this part was not in the movie I think. The next in how this part was portrayed is when Percy kicked Aries but. I did not get to see that part but however I think this part was made into somebody else getting beat up because that part that was similar happened to what happened to Aries. But I still do not know how it was portrayed. Then how my last favorite part was portrayed. I did not get to see this part but I do not think or know if this part was in the movie.
Describe how Rick Riordans book is superior:
His book was superior because his book was written really really detailed. And it was written better than the movie and how it was played to be. Also because his book let you understand and know what was going on in the book. Then also Ricks was really interesting and well written than the movie. Because the movie kind of didn’t make sense and it really didn’t go with anything that Rick riordan wrote. This is why I think Rick riordans book was superior.
I talked about three things in this essay. Three favorite parts. How those parts were portrayed in the movie. And bout Rick riordans book being superior.
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief
ReplyDeleteIn the past couple of weeks we’ve been reading the book Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. One part in the book I liked was the part when Percy, Annabeth, and Grover had been walking around for days and had stopped at Aunty M’s statue shop once there Aunty M had fed them and let them rest. But shortly after they tried to leave Aunty M revealed herself as the wicked Medusa and had tried to turn them into statues like all of her helpless victims. Percy and Medusa were at battle and Percy cut off Medusa’s head, wrapped it in plastic, put it in a box, and sent every thing she had in the cash register to the gods knowing that it would them angry.
Another one of my favorite parts in the book was when Percy, Annabeth, and Grover had got to the Underworld and met Hades to save his mother and retrieve Zeus’ Master Bolt but, Hades didn’t have it accused Percy of stealing the Master Bolt and, his Helm of darkness Percy said he didn’t have it and Hades told him to look in his bag Percy opened it and saw it Hades gave him two options give him the Helm and the Master Bolt, or leave one of his friends behind Percy chose to leave his mom and find the Helm.
And lastly my favorite part was in the end were Percy went home to find his mother there and found out that Gabe Uguliano had been hitting his mother when he was gone when Percy went to his bedroom he had found a package with his hand writing on it he knew what was inside the box the head he had sent to the gods and he gave the package to his mom and told her he would take care of the problem but his mother refused later, Percy went back to camp half-blood and wrote to his mom everyday, Gabe had gone missing for some time and Percy knew what his mom had done.
Today we are going to be talking about what Percy’s life is like outside Yancy academy. Outside of her school it is dangerous because when she was in preschool a snack was wrapped around his neck and after that well you get the point. So it is dangerous when she is not in school. Percy’s relationship with his mom is really good because she is a nice person. So there relationship is good. Percy hates his stepfather because he is mean. He is not so proud about his stepfather he hates him and his guts. Percy believes that his birth father is dead but he s not. He also believes that he got married to another women. He sometimes feels good and other times he does not feel so good. Grover is a wimp he is a goat and his feet are not were they are support to be.
ReplyDeleteToday we talked about chapter 3 and how we found out that Grover is half human and half goat. We also found out Percy’s life outside of Yancy academy. The last thing we talked about Percy’s relationship with his mother. That is what we talked about today.
Isaiah Martinez 6b ms Lider ‘s class The Percy Jackson movie is not better than the book because the book had more details then the movie, the book had Ares and the movie did not have him, the movie didn’t have the part were Annabeth and Percy was in the love bout and in the tunnel of love. That is way I throat the movie was not better then the book. But kind of liked some parts of the movie.
ReplyDeleteOn stalling Zeus ‘s lightning bolt.
The first topic is that when the movie didn’t have Ares in it Ares was the real thief in the book but Luc was his accomplice in Percy Jackson is a grate anther and I have a lot of connection’s with him and my first connection is that I have dyslexia as well. And I always gust daydream always. About some thing funny and stupid and dome and I have
ADHD HIS AND MY BREIN MISINTERPRETINETING THINGS.
Something that I think I have in common with Percy Jackson is that I am in the 6th grade, and also I am always daydreaming. I think that Percy Jackson is a bright boy, but has a lot of problems in school, well in math class (which I think is perfectly normal because everyone has their problems). Something that Percy has that is impressive is that when he was on his way to the Manhattan and Nancy Bobofit was bothering Percy’s friend, Percy was trying VERY hard not to do something dume or something that was going to get him in trouble. He was very open minded of his decisions and made the right one. If I was to give Percy Jackson an advice I will tell him what his mother told him that she kept the father in her hart and he will never forget him and I will give him that advice to keep his mom in his hart and never forget him and to always keep his mom in his hart and to still love her. And never give up on finding the people that is trying to kill you and still all ways remember the stuff that your mother told you they was hints to tell you how you are. And never forget how you are as a person and other things. And do not go home and tell gabe about the car the monster then you have to fight that is what you are suppose to do kill the people that are chasing you and never give up. That is what the book did to me the movie did nothing it just made me made that is all.
Percy Jackson and the Lightening Theif by Rick Riordan is the story of boy named Percy who is a half-blood, the child of a human and a greek god. The Percy Jackson movie was not as good as the book because it did not have all the important parts. There were some characters from the book not added in the film, there were characters and scenes from the movie that weren’t in the book, and there were parts
ReplyDeleteIn the movie, there were parts from the book that weren’t in the movie. For example, Percy went to go save his mother form Hades but he only had 3 pearls so Percy decided to leave his mother with Hades. But in the movie Grover stayed with Hades and his mother went with Percy. In the book the part when Clariese was about to shove Percy’s head in the toilet was not included in the movie. When Clariese was sword fighting with Percy over the red flag, instead of it being Clariese fighting it was Annabeth who was fighting him in the film.
In the book there were characters in the book that weren’t in the movie and to me that felt a little insulting. When I was reading the book there was a girl named Clariese daughter of Ares, and she was a bully to everyone but her sisters. In the movie there was NO character with a name of Clariese. In the book the mainly part of it was when Ares (the GOD of war) stepped in, and I thought that he was the most important part of the whole story because everyone thought that he was the lighting thief. In the movie they took out the most important part of the story, they DID NOT include Ares. One more person that was not included in the movie was Nancy Bobofit all though she wasn’t all that important, but she still had something to do with the whole story because she was the one that was GRABED by the water and that brought everyone’s attention.
Characters and scenes from the movie but not in the book, WHAT’S UP WITH THAT? When I was watching the PJ film I noticed that Hades wife (Persephone) was in the movie but then I remembered that she was not pronounced in the book and im thinking that they are taking advantage of the book. One of the scenes that I did not like was when the Hellhounds were attacking Percy, Grover and Annabeth. I did not like that scene because it was not in the book. Luke+Percy+Fight=Hollywood? In the book it said that Luke and Percy were fighting back in Half-Blood camp and in the movie they were fighting in Hollywood. I think that they wanted to put them fighting in Hollywood because maybe they thought that it wood be more action and they wanted it to represent them.
The movie was nothing like the book because it didn’t have all the important parts, there were characters form the book not in the movie, and characters and scenes from the movie but not in the book.

My other favorite part in this novel is when Percy and Aries was on the beach and Percy was first getting beat up but then Percy made a surprise and wiped Aries butt, it was so funny. percy Jackson and the lightening thief
I think my three favorites part in the novel is when percy first found out that Poseidon the god of the sea was his father, my other favorite part is when percy and Grover first went to camp half blood and my last favorite part is when percy gave zuse his lightening bolt.
My favorite part was when percy found out that Poseidon was his dad and in the story it was portrayed because in the book it was so much better because he was standing on water and a signal of Poseidon hallow came on top of his head and it shade a way and they told him that his father was Poseidon in the movie they just told him that his father was Poseidon.
My other favorite part that was portrayed in the story is when Grover and percy first went to camp half blood they first stared fighting and percy and annabeth as fighting and in the book percy got his head flash in to the toilet and something happened with the water and the water flash every wear.
The last part is when percy gave zuse his lighting thief it was different from the book because when he went tom go get his mom in the book he left his mom there but in the movie he left Grover there and when they got at the top Luke was there and they got in to a fight over the lightening bolt in the movie it was just how percy was there and zuse and pasidon was there and they looked big and they was talking and percy was telling them how luke gave him the lighting bolt with the fighting thing and he gave zuse the lighting bolt and strong, strong heavy lighting kept coming and zuse was really happy about it and when percy was leaving pasidon said son and percy:} turned around and he was talking to him and he told percy that he loves him and that he is happy but when ever he needs him he will be there for him and that was so sweet.
Percy Jackson and the lightning thief has the best parts, my favorite parts are when Anna Beth and Percy ride the love boat through the tunnel, when Percy gets his mother back from Hades, and when Anna Beth meets her mother. Percy is a very interesting person. He is one of my favorite characters. Percy is a very good actor. These were my favorite parts of the book and what I think of Percy.
ReplyDeleteAn amazing part is when Anna Beth and Percy ride the love boat through the tunnel. This part wasn’t in the movie so I was very angry. I was looking forward to seeing this part but they didn’t have it. This was my favorite part because they both hated each other and now they are on a love boat together. But I was very upset when they didn’t have it in the movie because I was looking forward to seeing it.
Another amazing part was when Percy went to the underworld to get his mom back. I liked that part because Luke hides the lightning bolt in the gift he gave him. This was my favorite part too because the lady that he forced to marry him stroked him with the lightning bolt and Percy got his mother. One thing that was different in the book and movie is Percy left his mom and Grover came but in the movie Grover stayed and his mom came which is awkward.
Another great part was when Anna Beth meets her mother. This part was great but a lot of things were different. One thing that was different was in the book Anna Beth and Grover didn’t go with him to return the bolt to Zeus the book but in the movie Anna Beth goes with Percy and meets her mother. In the book Anna Beth meets her mom way before Percy returns the bolt. I liked the book better than the movie.
In conclusion this field trip was awesome. I liked the book better because it had more interesting parts like when they road the love boat through the tunnel. The book was awesome and I really liked it. But in the movie many of my favorite parts were switched around. But both of the movie and book was great.
The lighting thief book is awesome, because percy got to fight god of war, got to go to the underworld alive and came out alive, and percy getting his mom back from Hades, when I heard that percy killed ARES I was in shock. When percy went to the underworld I was happy. And then when he got his mom back I was glad.
ReplyDeleteWhen Percy went to the underworld I was like (what). Percy had gone down there and alive. There were only dead people accept for percy and them. He had said to HADES can I get my mom back he laughed and said give me the lighting bolt. Percy said he did not have it. But he did with out knowing percy was set up.
When Percy fought ARES I was like so surprised. no other kid has fought a god. Percy had defeated him. I was glad. When they had got every thing percy was innocent . these birds took the helm and said we will tell HADES. As percy was rushing to mount Olympus. He went to ZEUS and returned the bolt and ZUES said I knew you had it. But percy told him the truth. Zeus had told him I believe you. And percy said thank you. ZEUS said do not ride a plane again or I would blast you in the sky. Percy said thank you and asked if I can get my mom back. ZEUS said okay percy talked to his dad and then left. When percy went home after coming from mount Olympus he went home. When he went home his mom was there . percy hugged and his mom hugged like he hasn’t seen her in thousands years. When percy saw smelly gabe he was in shock. Smelly Gabe said I’m calling the cops. Percy’s mom said shut up . percy I ‘m going back to camp half-blood. She said fine with me. She hugged him and percy packed when he was looking on his bed he saw a package that said mount Olympus . percy said mom can I do it she said no I will get rid him. Percy left .when he arrived at camp half=blood percy had a phone call…….
To me this is a cool book because people know that percy killed god of war .and that percy went to the underworld and came back alive. Then he got his mom back saw his dad this is cool maybe I should be half-blood.
Snow days are the best days ever in the week of school especially when you get to stay at home. I can play my play station all day, and have fun all day.
ReplyDeleteWhen you get to stay home it is so cool because you can watch your favorite shows on TV. Also, you can get a relaxing day by sitting on the couch no chores or any laundry. Also the best of them all no home work. So that can be compared to all of them.
Secondly is to be playing on the play station 3 all day long. And playing new games so you don’t get tired. The other part is to play levels and pass them so you start getting excited. And play with cousins and laugh at them when you win.
And lastly have fun all day long. By eating all kinds of foods like Chinese and pizza. And you can be playing games with your cousin. Lastly you can make all the noise you want. Know you know my last paragraph in details.
Well I wrote how snow day was so fun. How I played games stayed at home. It was beautiful because it was UN expected. And know you basically you lived it.
My three favorites part in the Percy Jackson book is when percy was fighting with annabeth and she gave him a cut and he put his hand in the water and his hand and cut got better, also I like when madosa with the snake hair she turns people in the a statue and percy cut her head off, last favorite part is when percy, annabeth and his mother went in to the elevator and it was so scary and it was shaking a lot.
ReplyDeleteI think the when Percy was fighting with annabeth it was funny because annabeth cut him in the hand and I think that he was bleeding. And when Percy put his in the water. When madosa have two twins sisters and Percy was fighting with them and I think the they daed. And I like the one on the elevator because the dog turns into a morstoer.
The Percy Jackson and the lightning book, has more adventure and suspense in it than the movie version. Especially in the part when Percy, Annabeth and Grover meet “Aunty Em”, the part when Grover almost got pulled into the darkest part of the Underworld, Tarturus by Luke’s “gift” and the fight Percy had with Clarisse while the camp was playing capture the flag. These events show more importance near the end of the story just the way they are in the book. They give hints on what is going to happen later on in the story. They shouldn’t have changed.
ReplyDeleteThe movie version totally messed up one of the best parts of the book when Percy Annabeth and Grover met Medusa. The worst part about the scene in the movie is that she wasn’t being nice to them when they first came in like in the movie. The filmmakers took away the extreme suspense of that scene. In the book the reader was given enough hints while reading to know that the woman was Medusa before the characters did.
I was really disappointed in whoever rewrote Percy Jackson for the movie because they tore apart the Underworld scene. First of all Grover did not have on the sneakers with wings that Luke had given them before they left for the quest, that Percy was supposed to be wearing. Those sneakers were very important because the reader was just getting suspicious of the character Luke. In the book those sneakers almost dragged Grover down the entrance of Tarturus. Secondly Hades wife Persephone was not there in the book when Percy and his friends spoke to Hades, had Persephone been there it probably would have made it easier to escape the Underworld. But Persephone was there in the movie and helped them to escape, which was boring because the characters didn’t have to work together to get out.
One of the most important events in the story is when Percy fights Clarisse, daughter of Ares near the stream while playing capture the flag and a hellhound attacked him but he didn’t die because the water from the small the stream healed him. That is also when Poseidion claims Percy all in one chapter. But the Movie had to change the amazing capture the flag scene too, instead of fighting Clarisse Percy was fighting Annabeth, I guess it was to show how much they hated each other in the beginning of the story. However, instead of Percy doing well she whipped his butt. And rather than Percy just happening to step into the water like in the book he hears a voice out of no-where telling him to go to the water, which was very corny.
The movie Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief was good but not nearly as good as the book by Rick Rioran. The story in the book was deeper and therefore better. What seemed like unimportant details end up being some sort of hint or having consequences on things that will happen in the future. Because of the rich details the book version has more adventure and suspense than the movie, The original is always best.
The thing that I am doing is my Percy Jackson blog and how my favorite part was portray in the movie and my 3 favorite parts of the movie and how Rick Riordan book was superior. My favorite part that was in the book and also in the move was when Percy Jackson cut off Annty .Em’s head. The other part that was in the book and the movie was when Percy Jackson finds himself fighting off the Minitar and when I mean him I mean Percy Jackson also Annibeth and Grover risk there life to go to the under world and stay there .
ReplyDeleteThe part that I liked in Percy Jackson was when Percy was fighting off the minitar and kicks the minitars butt. Other part that liked but also hated was when the minitar captured Percy Jackson’s mom and he saw his mom getting taken away and brought to the under world and Percy has to go with Grover and Annibeth to save the world retrieve the master bolt and save his mother.
Percy Jackson try to go to the under world to go save his mother from Hades because he is the one that took Percy Jackson mother and the book was really different because the mom risked her life to save them but in the movie Grover gets left behind to stay in the under world but I still liked that part also Hades shows her mother in the movie and in the book Percy goes to the under to see her mother.
The other part I like is when Luke turned evil and Tartorus was controlling Ares both Luke and also Luke helped Percy and then Luke betrays him and he is becoming to kill Percy with a scorpion and it was a cool part to because it was like close to the end of the book so that’s why I like those parts of the book. Also Annibeth got back to her regular parents and that’s the three parts I liked about Percy Jackson.
The book was different movie because there was no Ares and at the beginning of movie they tell him he is Posidons son and that’s when he gets to camp half-blood and in the book they give out suspense and then they told you he was the son of Poseidon and that was in the book also in the move it looks like they mixed Clarisse with Anniebeth and they put it in the movie and that what I have to say about my 5 paragraph essay .
Percy Jackson and the lightning thief is an excellent novel because it had the part which had the part when Percy fought Ares, my second favorite part was when Percy Jackson cut off Medusa’s head off and my last favorite part is when Percy Jackson first go to camp-half blood. My first favorite part of the novel was when Percy cut off Medusa’s head. This part was not portrayed in the movie. The Hollywood version of Percy Jackson and the lightning thief was not as good as Rick Rioridan. Rick Riordan’s book was superior because it had more parts. And it had the part when they eat. And it does not build up suspense when they find out that it is really medusa. And now my second favorite part was when Percy Jackson fights Ares for framing him. This part was not even in the movie in fact Ares was not even brought up in the movie. It was the jank because it missed out a lot of parts and Percy was not even 12 years old. Rick Rioridan’s book is also superior because it has a lot of details in it. And it creates a mental image that’s better than the movie. And last but not least my third part was when he goes to camp-half blood and he gets bullied, teased and picked on by Clarisse. And only half of this part was portrayed in the movie. The part when he goes to camp-half blood is portrayed in the movie. Rick Rioridan version of Percy Jackson and the lightning thief was superior because it had the part when Clarisse bullies Percy Jackson. And then when he got hurt and went to the river he healed and then they found out that Percy Jackson was the son of Poseidon. Percy Jackson was definitely an excellent novel but my most three favorite parts where when he fought Ares because it was action packed, my second was when he cut off Medusas head because it had a lot of suspence and my last favorite part was when he went to camp-half blood because I thought it would be a new beginning.
ReplyDeletePercy Jackson and the Lightening Theif by Rick Riordan is the story of boy named Percy who is a half-blood, the child of a human and a greek god. The Percy Jackson movie was not as good as the book because it did not have all the important parts. There were some characters from the book not added in the film, there were characters and scenes from the movie that weren’t in the book, and there were parts. their were three things that i liked.
ReplyDeletelike My favorite part was when percy found out that Poseidon was his dad and in the story it was portrayed because in the book it was so much better because he was standing on water and a signal of Poseidon hallow came on top of his head and it shade a way and they told him that his father was Poseidon in the movie they just told him that his father was Poseidon.
The part that I liked in Percy Jackson was when Percy was fighting off the minitar and kicks the minitars butt. Other part that liked but also hated was when the minitar captured Percy Jackson’s mom and he saw his mom getting taken away and brought to the under world and Percy has to go with Grover and Annibeth to save the world retrieve the master bolt and save his mother.

Last Friday we went in a field trip to the movies and we went to go see the movie Percy Jackson and the lighting thief.
ReplyDeleteMy three favorite parts of the movie were when Grover took the car out the hotel and he was driving very fast and he was escaping from the people.
When Percy Jackson was destroying Luke with his waterpowers finally my third favorite part of the movie is when Percy was at camp half blood and he was playing capture the flag and he was sword fighting with Anna Beth.
The best part of portrayed in the movie was when Mrs.Dodds told percy to step inside the museum and she got on the table and flew to percy and attacked him.
The best part of the book was when percy went in the tunnel of love with annabeth who was scared of spider and she screamed her head off .
I think that in the book Percy Jackson friends think that he is going to dye because they already have her flowers for her coffin.
ReplyDeleteAlso because all that she been through protecting her friends from the bullies in school and that her friends don’t like her or Percy Jackson is scared that it might be him dying or the flowers is to give him to somebody else or friend wants him to give the flowers to say good bye.
Also that Percy Jackson is shrinking and she not learning that much in his school and getting in trouble too much so I guess people want him to dye.
And Percy Jackson need to come down and stop imaging to many things that will get himself a little nervous.
